High Fidelity simulation is an educational tool that LifeMed Alaska uses to replicate real-life situations to achieve learning outcomes. A key benefit of clinical simulation is it provides a safe environment to practice skills. Simulation scenarios are immersive and interactive. The participants deliver care to computerized manikins that are remotely operated to accurately and consistently recreate the history, physical findings, and response pattern of actual patients.

Partners at Work
LifeMed Alaska and University of Alaska have partnered with the Interprofessional Health Science Simulation Center (IHSSC) to create a range of realistic settings including hospital rooms, clinics, and various pre-hospital environments. Scenarios are observed by clinical educators and medical directors. The participants and educators use the scenario to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to improve their practice. Clinical simulation has gained widespread acceptance in the healthcare community and is an integral part of ongoing quality improvement at LifeMed Alaska.
