History of LifeMed Alaska

LifeMed Alaska was formed from the merger of LifeGuard Alaska and AeroMed International on November 1, 2008. LifeGuard Alaska, was owned and operated by Providence Health and Services Alaska (PHSA). LifeGuard Alaska served the community and state of Alaska for 22 years providing both helicopter and fixed wing emergency services. AeroMed International was owned and operated by Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) and served the state of Alaska by providing fixed wing emergency services for 11 years. Both programs were CAMTS accredited during time of merger.

LifeMed Alaska is operated independently as a standalone corporation, 50% funded by PHSA and 50% funded by YKHC. LifeMed Alaska is governed by an executive board consisting of 3 members from PHSA and 3 members from YKHC organization. The leadership team of LifeMed Alaska consists of a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Clinical Officer, Vendor Relations/Safety Manager, IT/Logistics Manager, and a full time Clinical Education Coordinator. LifeMed Alaska also uses designated shift supervisors. Over all medical direction is provided Dr. Sami Ali. LifeMed Alaska also has three specialty Medical Directors Dr. Deborah Lerner - Pediatric, Dr. Sheri Richie - OB, and Dr. Eric Johnson - Neonatal.

LifeMed was able to retain all the medical crews from both companies, so while LifeMed is a new company we have combined experiences of 33 years with air medical evacuation in the state of Alaska and internationally. Each flight team consist of one Nurse that has at least a minimum of 5 years ER or ICU experience and one Paramedic that has at least 3-5 years of active emergency response service. All crew members are currently certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Adult and Pediatric Trauma support(TNCC/ENPC), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). All LifeMed medical crew and pilots maintain current passports and Russian multi-entry Visa’s.
